About Us
St James' CE Primary School is a unique school. We are situated in the heart of the city but in a quiet location very close to the beautiful River Wye. Within minutes, our children are able to enjoy the delights of farmland, the river bank, the Victoria Bridge, Hereford Cathedral itself and experience the wealth of charm and opportunities for exploration and learning that these, and other local features, offer.
Our current (2011-2012) cohort is 185 pupils, which means that the children have the benefit of single age classes but still enjoy the features that come with a smaller school: everyone knows everyone else and the school has the feeling of being 'one big family.'
The Ofsted Inspection in March 2010 was both disappointing and shocking to all but it set St James' on a journey of significant improvement. Since I have been at St James' (April 2010) I cannot question the commitment and hard work of all staff members. The learning now seen in each class is of the highest quality, as is the depth of knowledge that the teachers have about all learners. Each child is more involved in their own learning and takes a shared responsibility for their progress. In the series of inspections carried out by Her Majesty's Inspectorate (Ofsted Reports) many aspects of this improvement are praised and documented.
